Gutter cleaning in Reno, Sparks and Carson City
A packed gutter does nothing during a summer thunderstorm and even less during a winter thaw, which is when water finds the fascia, the wall and eventually the foundation.
Clear the trough, flush the downspout, clean the face
A proper gutter service is three jobs. First we clear the trough of needles, leaves, roof grit and the nests that build up over a season. Then we flush the downspouts so water actually reaches the ground instead of backing up at the elbow. Finally we clean the outside of the gutter, where those dark vertical drip stains collect.
The third step is the one most services skip, and it is the one you see from the street. Tiger striping on a white gutter reads as neglect even when the house itself is clean.
What we watch for while we are up there
- Loose or sagging hangers that let water pool
- Separated seams and failed end caps
- Downspouts that discharge against the foundation
- Debris packed behind gutter guards
- Roof litter that will be back in the trough within weeks
We report what we find. Gutter repair and replacement are not services we provide, so there is no reason for us to find problems that are not there.
Timing for our climate
Fall is the obvious window, after the cottonwoods and any nearby pines have dropped. A second clearing in spring catches what blew in over winter and clears the way for snowmelt and thunderstorm season.
Properties under pines, which covers much of the west side, Galena and the Tahoe basin, usually need more frequent attention because needles pack tighter than leaves and hold moisture against the metal.
After a smoky summer there is an extra reason to clear gutters: ash settles on the roof, washes into the trough with the first rain and turns into a dense sludge that is much harder to flush later.
Questions we hear a lot
Do you clean gutters with guards installed?
Yes, where the guards can be safely lifted and reseated. Some systems are fastened in a way that makes removal impractical, and we will tell you if that is the case.
Do you also clean the outside of the gutters?
Yes. Clearing the trough and brightening the gutter faces are both part of the service.
How often should gutters be cleaned here?
Twice a year suits most properties, in fall and again in spring. Homes under pines often need more.
Do you repair gutters?
No. We clean them and tell you what we noticed, such as loose hangers or a separated seam, so you can have it repaired.
